Tear Trough Filler
The Tear Trough is a hollow that runs from the side of the nose, below the eye and above the upper cheekbone, almost creating a ‘dip’ in the face under the eyes. For some patients, this area can become deeper and more shadowed giving the appearance of dark circles and may feel like it makes them look more tired. Many may also notice as they age, wrinkles appear around the tear trough areas. Tear trough filler is a popular procedure with minimal downtime to improve and eliminate dark ciricles and appear more awake and less tired.
What is Tear Trough Filler?
Tear Trough Filler treatment is a non-surgical aesthetic treatment performed using a hyaluronic acid injectable gel. By treatment with dermal fillers, we can soften dark circles and rejuvenate the area around the eyes leaving you looking less tired and more refreshed. We use the latest and safest injection techniques including the use of a small blunt needle called a cannula when treating the tear troughs. This reduces downtime + discomfort and ensures patient safety.
We take a holistic approach to tear trough filler as often dark circles are worsened by ageing signs, especially volume loss affecting the mid face, so during your consultation we will advise on what’s best for you in order to achieve the best outcome from your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
The eyes are a very sensitive area to treat. However, many modern dermal fillers contain anaesthetic to help ease any discomfort. We also use a topical anaesthetic to further aid this procedure should you be particularly sensitive. Most patients find this treatment to be comfortable and without pain, likened much like a pin prick to the skin. We use a cannula for all tear trough treatments at GentleMax to ensure maximum patient comfort.
Due to the nature of injectable treatments, there is a possibility of some minor side effects, most of which subside up two-four weeks after treatment. Common side effects include:
- Mild swelling and bumps.
- Localised tenderness.
- Skin blemish or bruising.
- General sensitivity and redness.
Any potential side effects will be discussed during your consultation with a member of the GentleMax team.

For Tear Trough Fillers, we use JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA.
Initial results will be visible as soon as you leave the clinic, however, it will take up to four weeks for the filler to settle and for the final results. There may be bruising which can last up to two weeks post treatment.
Our holistic approach to full-face dermal fillers means that results can last up to two years, however we recommend 6-month maintenance appointments to ensure optimum results.
Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers tend to fall within the 6 to 18-month range, however, the expected longevity of your fillers will also vary from person to person. The general ‘rule of thumb’ when it comes to tear trough filler longevity is 6-12 months.
The exact longevity might change based on the volume of filler used, the precise areas being treated as well as the patient’s metabolism and lifestyle. However, our injectors will be happy to discuss specifics at your consultation.
Maintaining your dermal fillers and increasing the longevity of your results can be achieved in a few ways. To ensure that you get the most from your filler treatment we recommend a combination of the following:
- Maintaining a healthy skincare routine, minimising exposure to UV radiation.
- Eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated.
- Avoiding stress, as this will accelerate the signs of ageing.
- Follow the recommended aftercare provided by our practitioners.
- Using medical grade skincare.
- Attending recommended maintenance appointments.
While dermal filler is a highly accessible treatment, we screen for suitability and only treat patients who are 21 years old and older.
We specialise in full-face dermal fillers and have a proven method that carefully targets key anti-ageing zones, making each treatment as unique as the individual while ensuring natural looking results. Most patients that seek this treatment are interesting in looking less tired, more youthful and more refreshed.
